What is Panorama Education

Panorama Education is a U.S. based education technology company that is committed to providing schools, districts, and families with the tools to improve student success in school and beyond. Panorama Education was founded in 2012 and supports positive outcomes for over 15 million students in 25,000 schools and 2,000 districts across the United States.

How does Panorama work with schools and districts?

School districts use Panorama’s technology platform to improve how they support students across academics, behavior, attendance, and life skills. Each school district decides on the goals that matter for their students and community. Many school districts use Panorama’s platform to power their Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). MTSS is a framework used in schools to ensure that every student’s academic and behavioral needs are met through increasingly targeted interventions across three levels of support. Panorama’s survey technology and research-backed survey instruments are designed to help students succeed. We worked with researchers at the Harvard Graduate School of Education to develop best-in-class, research-backed surveys for students, teachers, staff, and families on topics like school climate and school safety. Our survey questions do not ask about students’—or their families’—personal and private attitudes, values, beliefs, or practices. Local school districts decide what works best for their students, including when and how they administer surveys, and which questions they ultimately include on their surveys. Panorama focuses on helping students achieve success in school and beyond. Panorama does not provide curriculum to districts.

Panorama follows industry best practices for data privacy and security. As a technology company, we implement administrative, technical, and physical security controls designed to protect information stored on our servers, which are located in the United States.

What kinds of student data does Panorama collect?

Schools and districts use Panorama’s platform to see all aspects of a student’s learning side by side. In Panorama’s platform, educators are typically looking across academic information, behavior information, attendance information, and student voice survey data to understand the full picture of a student’s strengths and needs. Some schools and districts see academic information in Panorama, such as grades and assessment scores, and demographic information, such as grade level and gender, in order to support their educational services and drive positive outcomes for their students.

Does Panorama engage in data mining?

The term “data mining” isn’t well-defined in public discourse, and we want to be very clear about what we do and what we do not do. One common understanding of “data mining” is the use of data to target advertising to children; we oppose such activities, and we do not engage in them. Panorama does not market, sell, or rent any student's personal information. Panorama does not engage in, inform, influence, or enable advertising to students. Panorama does not collect information from students unless we are performing services for their school or district pursuant to a written contract. We cannot share any education or student information unless authorized by the school or district or under applicable law.
